I'm a bit stuck here. I've attempted to install Vista Beta 2 as an upgrade to XP. I went through a few blue screens during the final part of the installation (something about a bad_pool_call I think). Anyway, I've ended up at that dreaded black desktop, with the Vista blurb down the bottom right and a moveable mouse pointer.
I've read in a lot of these posts that it's most likely video-related, but how do I fix whatever's wrong now that I have the black desktop in *both* Normal and Safe modes?!
I've left it ruinning for at least 10 minutes in each mode but it just sits there. Help!

That dreaded black desktop!
Do a clean install would be my recommendation, or remove the video card from the system and try booting up. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

Can't remove the video card as it's a laptop - GeForce Go 6600 128Mb RAM. Am I likely to run into any problems with this video chip on a complete reinstall?

Thanks Andre it seems a clean install was the answer. A pretty alarming 1st glitch though!!!

How much video memory do you have? I installed on a laptop with 64meg video mem and it took way longer than 10 minutes for the desktop to come up the first time. I suspect that the less video mem, the longer it takes. After that first time it will work normally. -- If you can read this, thank a teacher. Since you are reading it in English, thank a Soldier.
